SIKESTON - The mercury dropped to 13 degrees this morning to give Sikeston its lowest reading thermometer in the last three days.

NEW MADRID - The reorganized New Madrid Chamber of Commerce recently elected nine members to its board of directors. They are: Harold White, Kelly Adams, F.M. Baird, Bob Seeman, Bob Blades, Jim Cravens, Larry Rost and L.H. Recker.

SIKESTON- A disaster cleaning service from St. Louis, CATCO, remains at the Kingsway Mall today after the fire that destroyed a small jewelry store, Rich's Jewelry, located across from J.C. Penney's. Officers looked through the rubble at the store Thursday in an effort to determine the cause. The mall is open for business as normal.

SIKESTON - Eight items requiring action, in addition to a proposed tax levy increase, were approved by the Sikeston R-6 Board of Education Thursday.

SIKESTON - Betty Hicks of Sikeston won $1,250 when she played the quarter machine at Casino Aztar Sunday in Caruthersville. The lights flashed and the machine made a noise when it rolled up three red 7's, declaring her a winner.

SIKESTON - Of the 6.475 cents shoppers in Scott and New Madrid counties pay on retail purchases, the state takes the biggest share. Sikeston gets 1.75 cents. Should the quarter cent higher education sales tax be passed in April, this will grow to 2 cents.
