MATTHEWS - Two large service stations and truck stop layouts will be built at the Matthews intersection of Interstate 55 and Highway 80. Both tracts of land, 29 acres and eight acres respectively, were owned by Hunter-Smith Farms.

ST. LOUIS - W.S. Corrigan, president of the Bank of Sikeston, has been appointed community chairman of the 1967 Radio Free Europe Fund Campaign. Each community chairman will conduct the drive. 20 years ago

SIKESTON - A proposed Sikeston 2000 citizen committee and street repairs highlighted discussion this morning when members of the Sikeston City Council met with City Manager Dan Ward at the weekly briefing session. Each council member had been assigned to submit a list of names of people they believe would serve on the Sikeston 2000 committee. The broad-based committee, as it was termed by Ward, would focus primarily on the needs for a new swimming pool and Chaney-Harris Cultural Center.

SIKESTON - Over 60 carts were on hand at SEMO Kart Raceway to kick off the Father's Day race, which drew a crowd of over 200 people. Kalie Hughes, of Sikeston, found the winner's circle once again, finishing ahead of Timmy Nelson, Aaron Black and Jessica Yant to capture the beginner's class. Hunter Schuerenberg grabbed a first-time feature win, holding off Josh Wright for the victory. The rookie class winner, Branden Poppenheimer of Memphis outlasted a large field of contestants to walk away with the "Pepsi $50."
