SHALLOTTE, N.C. -- Mary Royal Council Carpenter, 87, formerly of Sikeston, Mo., died June 1, 2007.
Born May 26, 1920, in Sikeston, to the late Floyd and Flora Morrison Royal, she graduated from Sikeston High School in 1937. In 1946 she moved to Anderson, Ind., where she worked for 30 years at Delco Remy Division of General Motors before retiring in 1976 and was actively involved in the Wapehani Chapter of the American Business Women's Association (ABWA) and was honored as Woman of the Year in 1969. She later moved to Charlotte and then Sunset Beach. She was a member of the Ovid Chapter of Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron in 1976 and again in 1991-92, a member of the Indiana Zeta Chapter of Phi Sigma Alpha Sorority, a member of the Delco Remy Chorus, and a volunteer at St. John's Health System. She was also a former member of Whetstone United Church of Christ.
She married Lloyd S. Council who preceded her in death. She then married J. George Carpenter who also preceded her in death.
Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Charles Royal of Malden, Mo., and Lyman Royal of Coventry, R.I.
Survivors include: two daughters and one son-in-law, Janis Starks of Sunset Beach and Katie and Mike Reilly of Indianapolis, Ind.; one stepson and daughter-
in-law, Mike and Penny Carpenter of Frankton, Ind.; and one grandchild, two stepgrandchildren, three great-grandchildren and four step great-
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes and Crematory in Anderson, Ind. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday with Ed Council officiating.
Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Anderson.
