Your view: Visit Food Bank

Wednesday, May 30, 2007

Dear Editor,

On June 5, 2007, we invite you to join Americans nationwide in observing Hunger Awareness Day in remembrance of the more than 35 million people in the United States who are living on the brink of hunger.

The face of hunger will surprise you. Hunger affects working families who are forced to make choices between food and basic necessities like heat, medicine or rent. It strikes people with sudden illness or new responsibility to care for an additional family member. It does not discriminate against age, race, gender or ethnicity.

The community is cordially invited to a Hunger Awareness Day Open House at Bootheel Food Bank, 104 Keystone Drive in Sikeston. Visitors are welcome form 10:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. to tour our facilities, meet the staff and register for attendance prizes. Learn who we are and what we're doing to combat hunger in your city and in the surrounding region.

Together, we can and will create a hunger-free America.

Sincerely,

Karen Green
