SIKESTON - Mrs. Irma Wilson Allen is celebrating with a luncheon this Monday for Miss Maureen Blanton, bride-elect of Jean Klein. Another shower was given last Thursday by Mrs. Mary Emma Donnell.

NEW MADRID - In a referendum, New Madrid County Cotton Producers voted against out-of-state allotments of cotton by sale or lease. The referendum was conducted by mail May 15-19 by the New Madrid County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Office.

SIKESTON - City manager Raymert Miller today announced that three more police officers will join the Sikeston Police Department. The additions will bring the force to 19 members.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Board of Municipal Utilities discussed a recent contract negotiation with Coffeyville, Kan., during its meeting Wednesday night. The contract renegotiated with the Sikeston Power Station reduces Coffeyville's obligation by $16 million and will expire in 1994 instead of 2000 as originally stated.

SIKESTON - Ben Stricklin struck out 12 batters and walked only two for Fabrite Welding but the Jaycees team proved too much, taking home a 7-0 win during Little League play on Monday.

SIKESTON - Travelers heading west this summer on Highway 60 from Morehouse to Dexter will see results as the long-awaited four-lane improvements are under way. Harvey Graham, Missouri Department of Transportation Sikeston resident engineer for the project, said that while construction is moving ahead as planned, it will still be perhaps December before the entire route will be finished. According to a May update from MoDOT officials, because of soil texture, the contractor determined it would be more "operationally efficient" to begin from west to east, despite the fact that the contracts were awarded in the opposite order.
