POPLAR BLUFF -- Missouri State Highway Patrol has announced Memorial Day weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for Troop E, which includes 13 counties in Southeast Missouri.
The enforcement operations included All American Buckle-Up Week and the (C.A.R.E.) Combined Accident Reduction Effort.
During the Memorial Day weekend traffic crash counting period, which began May 25 and ended May 28, Troop E officers investigated 44 traffic crashes, which resulted in three fatalities. Troop E officers made 38 arrests for driving while intoxicated; issued 368 speeding citations, 221 seat belt summonses and 15 child restraint citations; and assisted 185 motorists.
During the period covering May 21 through May 28, the Patrol participated in the "All American Buckle Up" campaign and issued 320 seat belt summonses and 27 citations for failure to properly secure a child in an approved child restraint seat.
