Female entered bank with note demanding money
NEW MADRID - A late afternoon bank robbery in New Madrid had law enforcement officers scouring the area looking for the suspects Thursday.
At approximately 3:50 p.m. a black female entered Regions Bank at 301 U.S. Highway 61 in New Madrid, handed the teller a note and demanded money. No gun or weapon was displayed. After about two minutes, the woman then fled the bank with an undetermined amount of money and got into a 2005 or 2006 white Chevrolet Cobalt four door, with no spoiler and no visible tags.
"Everyone is fine and no one was hurt," New Madrid Police Chief Claude McFerren said early today.
The robber was described as a 5-foot-6- or 7-inch stocky black female with short hair wearing blue capri pants. No description of the driver of the car was given.
McFerren said bank surveillance tapes are being reviewed by the FBI, and officers are searching for the vehicle. Assisting New Madrid Police Department are New Madrid County Sheriff's Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol and Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force.
