SIKESTON - The Rev. R.M. Talbert, pastor of the Christian Church, will continue as pastor of the local church, following action taken at a church meeting last week.

ESSEX - Advance broke the century barrier in its opening round 109-69 over St. Henry's of Charleston last night in the Richland Invitational basketball tournament. Highlight of the night was the 40-point performance of Advance guard Ford Morgan.


SIKESTON - Cutting the cake for the 50th anniversary of the St. Louis Federal Land Bank at American Legion Hall was Hal F. Robertson, manager of the Federal Land Bank Association of Sikeston.

SSIKESTON - The Sikeston branch of the NAACP will conduct its annual Freedom Fund Banquet at 6 p.m. Saturday.

SIKESTON - Water and sewer rates will go up beginning in Feb. 1998. The Board of Municipal Utilities approved the Sikeston Light and Water staff's recommendation for the rate hikes at Tuesday's regular meeting. The average residential customer will pay about $5 more per month on their water and sewer bills, based on a home which uses 6,700 gallons per month. The raises are across the board, including business and industrial customers.


BENTON - John Worley of Benton recently donated four new bikes to the Community Christmas Campaign. The bikes are sure to give some young boys and girls a big surprise this holiday.


SIKESTON - Sheri Woods of Sikeston was the lucky winner of the Orscheln Farm and Home Supply drawing. Woods won a trip to Branson which included four days and three nights and two tickets to a show.
