SIKESTON -- A man was arrested Sunday after leaving the scene of an accident.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:17 a.m. when a driver lost control of a westbound vehicle on Malone and struck a fuel pump at Huck's Fuel and Food Store at the corner of East Malone and Main, according to Capt. John Martin of the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.

"It broke off at the base and put it in the aisle and the pump system caught on fire," Martin said. "The three occupants off the car then fled on foot. They were apprehended a short time later in the vicinity of Break Time."

Two of the car's occupants stated they had minor injuries and were transported to Missouri Delta Medical Center for treatment, according to Martin. No injuries from the fire were reported.

"The fuel pump was destroyed and the car received extensive damage," Martin said.

The driver was arrested.

No further information was available as of presstime.
