CLARKTON - William "Bill" Mathews, 70, formerly of Gideon, died May 12, 2007, at his home.
Born April 5 ,1937, in Open Bay, to the late William Franklin Grantsville and Cassie May Wigington Mathews, he had worked in St. Louis as a plant manager and was of the Pentecostal belief.
Survivors include: four sons, Carl Mathews, Richard Mathews and Jerry Mathews of Malden and Mike Mathews of House Springs; five daughters, Becky Johnson of Essex, Kathy Mallett of Saucier, Miss. and Melba Green, Cassie Baggett and Jamie Lewis of East St. Louis, Ill.; five sisters, Ruby Yates of Risco, Pam Pantanjo of Malden, Mary Hutchingson and Jeannie McCinny of Arvetta, Colo. and Betty Haase of the state of California; 17 grandchildren and several great-
grandchildren; and a special friend, Ruth Ervin of Clarkton.
He was preceded in death by: three son, Robert Matthews, Ernest Matthews and James Matthews; one daughter, Judy Matthews; two brothers in infancy, John Matthews and Ray Matthews; and three sisters, Irene Matthews, Ann Rebino and Fannie Mae Matthews.
Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. today at Watkins and Son Funeral Home in Dexter, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Richard Blagg of Malden officiating.
Burial will follow in the Stanfield Cemetery in Clarkton.
