SIKESTON - Evelyn Marie Brandy, 72, died Oct. 30, 2006, at her daughter's home in Cape Girardeau.
Born Oct. 14, 1934, in Charleston, daughter of the late William and Bertha (Decker) Nicholson, she accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age at Greer's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. She attended Jubilee House of Prayer, where she served as a mother of the church and assisted with the housekeeping of the church. She had been a homemaker, taking care of her children -- which was her life's priority -- and later worked as a housekeeper and cook at Kellett's Restaurant, frequently volunteering in numerous non-
In 1952, she married Tommie Lee Brandy Jr., who preceded her in death on Nov. 27, 1995.
One grandson, Javon Buxton; two brothers, Stanley Nicholson and James Edward Nicholson; and two sisters, Willie Mae Wiggins and Adelle Mayes Nicholson, also preceded her in death.
She is survived by: three sons, Tommie Lee Brandy II, Steve Allen Brandy and Cornelius Brandy, all of Dayton, Ohio; six daughters and three sons-in-law Gwendolyn Chenet and Cassandra Brandy-Evans of Dayton, Beverly and Michael Baker and Brenda Jo Carter of Sikeston, Christine and James Hamilton of Cape Girardeau and Connie and Edward Green of Kansas City; three brothers, Eddie Nicholson of Kansas City, Thurman Nicholson of Phoenix and William Nicholson of Portland, Ore.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Erma Jean and Clyde Hyler of Sikeston and Earnestine and Melvin Davis of Kansas City; 31 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and three special friends, Bernice Ray, Vella Mae Applewhite and Rosie Harris.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. unit time of services at 1 p.m. Friday at the Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston. Audrey Gail Emanuel, pastor of Jubilee House of Prayer, will officiate.
Pallbearers will be: Mandell Brandy, Joshua Evans, John Evans, Steve Brands, Armand Hodges, Michael Buxton and John Carter.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Steve Brandy, Tom Brandy, Eddie Nicholson, Clyde Sanders Hyler, Melvin Davis, Michael Baker, James Hamilton and Darius (Malik) Nicholson.
Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery at Sikeston.
