WYATT - Charles "Bud" Thornton, 87, died May 9, 2007, at the Charleston Manor Nursing Center.
Born Oct. 6, 1919, in Simpson County, Ky., to the late Arthur and Carrie Thornton, he had lived since 1923 in Mississippi County, where he had been employed with Burke and Giltz Farms and at Burkhart Foam Company in Cairo until his retirement. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and had attended the Wyatt Baptist Church.
On Jan. 11, 1950, he married Bernice Josephine Baker, who preceded him in death.
Three sisters, Hazel Curtis, Lena Thornton and Lilly Thornton, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Charles and Lesia Thornton of Sikeston; three sisters, Odell Thornton of Charleston and Alma Johnson and Genevieve Gill of Granite City, Ill.; two grandchildren; and his caregivers, the Mitchell Pullen family of Wyatt.
Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. today at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.
Graveside rites will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston, with Mitchell Pullen officiating.
