CHARLESTON -- George Whitaker "Dub" Coffer, 72, died May 17, 2007, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Born Dec. 10, 1934, in Mississippi County, son of the late Bishop and Gladys Cowser Coffer, he lived in Mississippi County his entire life. He was first employed with the National Compress in Charleston. He later worked for the Bunge Corporation in Cairo, Ill., and then the Community Sheltered Workshop until his retirement. He was a welder, builder and repairman.

On Feb. 28, 1953, he married Doris Hinkle who survives of the home.

Also surviving are: three sons and two daughters-in-law, Steve and Sherrie Coffer and Garry and Melissa Coffer of Sikeston and Randy Coffer of Rofino, Idaho; one brother, Ray Coffer of Jackson, Tenn.; one sister, Louise Powers of East Prairie; and 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at the Anniston Cemetery with the Rev. Dolan Rogers of Sikeston officiating.

Burial will follow under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston.

Pallbearers will be: Bruce Childers, Ray Patrick, Ronnie Estes, Jack Arrington, Jessie Flack and Warren Palmer.
