DPS busts party; issues 32 citations

Monday, May 21, 2007

SIKESTON -- Sikeston Department of Public Safety issued 32 citations for underage possession of alcohol after busting a party this weekend.

DPS responded to a call at 11:37 p.m. Sunday advising there was loud music and underage drinking at a party at 123 Greenbrier, according to Capt. John Martin of the DPS.

Officers arrived to find minors "milling around the yard," Martin said, along with tapped beer kegs and beer and wine cooler bottles on tables.

"It was a graduation party for Notre Dame in Cape Girardeau," he said.

The homeowners did have a permit from the city for the party. "They were supposed to shut down at midnight," Martin said.

As there was underage drinking taking place, however, DPS will be forwarding reports to the city attorney for further action.

"The adults hosting the party were at the scene where the party was," Martin said.

As Tuesday is Sikeston Senior High School's graduation, Martin cautioned that when underage drinking is taking place, DPS will issue citations. "The hosts of the parties are responsible," he said.
