Boy, 16, fatally wounded

Thursday, July 5, 2007

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Department of Public Safety is currently investigating the shooting death of a 16-year-old boy at his home.

At 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sikeston DPS officers responded to 207 Luther St. to check on an unresponsive teen. It was reported that the family of the victim was outside the home and went inside a bedroom where they found the victim, Antonio Dewayne Patterson, bleeding from the head.

The family believed the teen fell from a medical condition and contacted 911 for assistance. Officers and EMS responded and upon their arrival, it was discovered Patterson had a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head.

Sikeston DPS detectives were immediately called to investigate the incident. Shortly after, EMS pronounced Patterson dead.

After being questioned, some subjects outside the residence said they heard a pop, but they believed this was from fireworks being shot in the area. The matter is still under investigation.
