CHARLESTON -- Mary E. Jackson, 77, died June 3, 2007, at her home.
Born Sept. 28, 1929, in Sentobia, Miss., daughter of the late Lucius and Lucinda Jackson White, she had lived in Missouri for over 50 years. She was an active member for over 47 years of the Opportunity Church of God in Christ in Charleston where she served as vice president of the Mother's Board, a deaconess and a former choir member. She was a foster mother for many years.
On Feb. 25, 1942, she married Harrison Jackson who preceded her in death.
Two children, three brothers, one grandchild and one great-grandson also preceded her in death.
Survivors include: four sons and one daughter-in-law, Jimmie Jackson, James Jackson and Harrison Jackson Jr. of Charleston and Ray and Priscilla Jackson of Kankakee, Ill.; six daughters and three sons-in-law, Doris Starks, Harriet Jackson and Princess Jackson of Charleston, Bettye and Terry Shaw of Dekalb, Ill., and Mary Ann and Jimmie Clay and Joann and Jimmie Moore of Aurora, Ill.; a special daughter, Leora Hamilton of Charleston; one sister, Louise Moss of Sledge, Miss.; and 25 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Opportunity Church of God in Christ where services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday. Steve Betts, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston.
Williams Funeral Homes of Charleston is in charge of arrangements.
