SIKESTON - The Sikeston High School Cagers dropped their first game of the season to Morehouse, 29-23. The Sikeston B team also lost its game to the Morehouse B team, 21-16.

SIKESTON - The Missouri Highway Patrol reported that roads were covered with snow and ice as the area's first winter storm passed through the Southeast Missouri region. The snow is expected to end later today or early tonight.

SIKESTON - To the delight of children and others wishing a white Christmas, about two inches of snow blanketed Sikeston before noon today. To the dismay of persons attempting to travel, four inches may fall before tonight.

SIKESTON - The goal for the blood drive, sponsored by the Sikeston Rotary Club in conjunction with the Red Cross, was exceeded by 45 units. A goal of 125 units was set, however, 170 units were acquired with 17 deferrals noted. It was also noted that 18 first time donors turned out to participate in the much needed program.

SIKESTON - Twelve drivers and three service personnel at Potlatch Forests Inc. pooled $200 together and purchased food for needy families. Twenty Christmas packages were delivered to the families today.

SIKESTON - Betty Crider, LPN of Sikeston, works with VNA's Private Duty Program. She and Sandra Lange, LPN of Kennett were recognized by Director Linda Linhart as the 1996 Employees of the Year for Private Duty.

CAPE GIRARDEAU - Fox (Arnold, Mo.) picked up the 22nd annual 1996 Tiger Classic title, a feat they accomplished for the second consecutive year. Sikeston had only two wrester place. Jared Self placed fourth in the 152 weight class, then Doug Wiles finished sixth in the 171 weight class.
