EL CENTRO, Calif. - Gordon Allen Starnes, 61, died April 15, 2007, at El Centro Medical Center.
Born July 24, 1945, at St. Bernard Hospital in Jonesboro, Ark., to G.H. and Bernadine Starnes of Sikeston, Mo., he graduated from Sikeston High School and Rolla School of Mines Engineering School with a civil engineering degree.
Projects he designed and supervised ranged from specialized aspects of NASA's space shuttle program, Arizona's development of the Kartchner Caverns, developing automated assembly lines for Chrysler to disposal of nerve gas. He also was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
In addition to his parents, survivors include: his wife, Evelyn Starnes of Imperial; one sister, Jacqueline Brooks of Pasadena; one brother, James E. Starnes of Newport Beach; two stepdaughters; one stepson; and one niece, Khristina Starnes Lucas of Austin, Texas.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday in El Centro.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in Sikeston. The Rev. Dolan Rogers will officiate assisted by David Jackson.
