ST. CHARLES - Jettie B. James Purchase, formerly of Charleston, died May 18, 2007, at Blanchette Place Nursing Home in St. Charles.
Born Aug. 7, 1922, in Grenada, Miss., to the late John and Louella Conley James, she had been a resident of Missouri for over 83 years. A graduate of Ecorse Michigan High School, she obtained her bachelor of science degree at Lincoln University and later received a master of education from Governor State University in University Park, Ill. She was employed by Lincoln School in Charleston, taught in Wyatt and retired from Cairo Junior High School. She was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston where she was a member of the choir and served as secretary for many years.
Survivors include: four sons and three daughters-in-law, Wayne L. and Donna Grant Jr. of St. Charles, Johnny Purchase of Dallas, Winston and Martha Purchase of Round Rock, Texas, and Ambrose and Rose Purchase of Jonesboro, Ark.; one daughter, Cheryl Kaye Grant of Dallas; one brother and sister-in-law, Marshall and Gwen James of Chicago; and 15 grandchildren and three great-
In addition to her parents, four brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. until time of services at noon Thursday at the Williams Funeral Home in Charleston with Steve Betts officiating.
Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Charleston.
