SIKESTON - Mrs. Edna Shankle and Mrs. Electa O'Hara have announced the opening of the Artificial Floral Co., 506 East Center.

SIKESTON - The City Council has approved a plan to lease five acres of land to the Sikeston Industrial Development Corporation and authorize the corporation to sublease the property to a manufacturing firm. The action was taken in a special meeting last night.

SIKESTON - Ten 13-ounce cans of explosive gunpowder were found this morning at the rear of Hays Saw Mower Center, 115 S. Handy St. One of the cans had been sprinkled around the edge of the building around a trash barrel.

SIKESTON - Walter Hedrick and Tom Hedrick were recognized Thursday evening at the Industrial Club reception held at the Sikeston Country Club for Industrial Club members and guests. The award was given to Hedrick Concrete Products Incorporated for its recent expansion, which enabled more employees to be hired. Approximately 150 employees work at the business at this time.

SIKESTON - Sophomore Chris Forbis and juniors Shannon Sullivan, Andrew Felker, Chad Jennings, Jeremy Taylor, Ben Askew, John Warren and Ian McReynolds have all scored in or above the third percentile of all students talking the ACT in the nation. Students that score in the top 3 percent in the nation, receive the Bright Flight Scholarship, an automatic $2,000 a year for five years to students who attend a private or public school in Missouri.


SIKESTON - Firefighters were called to Taco Bell, 1413 E. Malone at 5:40 p.m. Tuesday. DPS reports states that a fire had broken out in the men's bathroom. While no cause has been discovered, an attempted arson case is being investigated. The blaze was contained to the bathroom area.
