SIKESTON - The Rev. Gayle Jackson, pastor of the First Assembly of God Church, announced that the church recently purchased the N.E. Fuchs Jr. lot.

SIKESTON - The graduating seniors in high schools of Scott, Stoddard, Mississippi and New Madrid counties will number about 1,600 this June.

SIKESTON - The first airplane auction in Sikeston produced an influx of 100 aircraft as of Tuesday. The dealer auction, sponsored by the Hale Bros., drew buyers from 25 states and Canada. Thirty-five airplanes were sold.

EAST PRAIRIE - Major item of business on Thursday's City Council agenda included a mobile home ordinance amendment. Under the adopted amendment to the mobile home ordinance, current owners-occupiers may replace their homes with new or updated trailers, provided the homes meet other criteria. This applies to mobile homes presently located in 4-1 or 4-2 zoned areas in the city, not areas zoned for mobile homes.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston golf team placed second in the district tournament on Tuesday. Team members are Paul Couch, Brent Pearson, Ben Alcorn, Blake Harmon and Ryan Griggs. Three Sikeston players were all-district for making the top 10 in the tournament. Alcorn placed second with a 76, Harmon placed fifth with a 78 and Griggs placed ninth with a 79. The fab five will compete in the state competition on May19 - 20 at the Sedalia Country Club.


SIKESTON - Baccalaureate service for the Sikeston High School graduating seniors is set for 6:30 p.m. May 18 at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church Parish Center. The keynote speaker will be Gene Bess, basketball coach at Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff.
