Man tries to abduct girl on Monday

SIKESTON -- Authorities are continuing their search today for a man wanted in connection with an abduction attempt of a 12-year-old girl.

At approximately 6:30 p.m. Monday, the Sikeston Department of Public Safety was notified of an apparent abduction attempt at the intersection of Courtney and Pine streets.

The 12-year-old girl described the assailant as a white male in a white, silver or gray van.

The van was an older model, window-style van. The second digit in the license plate was the letter "R" and the 5th digit of the license plate was the number "2," according to a news release from DPS.

The man was identified as being approximately 5-feet, 8-inches tall; stocky build; and wearing a white T-shirt with dirt or food stains on it. The subject also either has stitches or a tattoo on the right wrist area.

According to the victim's description, the subject has black hair with some gray, as well as a black, full beard and mustache with some graying.

No further information on the attempted abduction could be obtained from DPS.
