BLOOMFIELD -- A Dexter woman missing since Saturday was found dead Monday in rural Stoddard County.
According to Stoddard County Sheriff's Department, Linda S. Hutchcraft, 49, of Dexter was overdue for a work appointment in Oran Saturday morning. As a result, Hutchcraft's husband, Michael Hutchcraft, contacted the sheriff's department Saturday morning and checked to see if any auto accidents occurred in Stoddard County.
Then when Hutchcraft didn't return home Saturday evening, her husband filed a missing person's report early Sunday at the sheriff's department. A multi-jurisdictional investigation started with elements from Stoddard County Sheriff's Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Stoddard County Sheriff's Department regarding Hutchcraft's disappearance. A system called Missouri LOCATER was activated and information was broadcast to all agencies in the region as well as television and other media.
On Monday morning a local farmer reported to the Stoddard County Sheriff's Department that a vehicle matching the description of Hutchcraft's Dodge Neon was parked in a field road near Stoddard County Road 732. Units were immediately dispatched to the scene and discovered Hutchcraft in the vehicle.
The Stoddard County coroner pronounced Hutchcraft dead at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled to determine exact cause of death; however, no foul play is expected at this time.
