SIKESTON - Despite the presence of a school issue and a cable TV straw vote on the ballot, voter turnout at noon today was ranked as poor. A total of 260 ballots were cast today for one city council seat. Turnout in the school board election was 323 compared to 294 last year. The polls opened at 6 a.m. and will remain open until 7 p.m.
SIKESTON - The honor of Lions Club Man of the Year for 1987, bestowed Thursday evening during the combined Chamber of Commerce-Lions Club Award Banquet, went to Bob Thomason, businessman, church leader and community enthusiast. Named Lions Club Member of the Year was Herbert Marshall, a member of the organization since 1960.
SIKESTON - Danette Todt is about as laid-back as they come. Her mother claims she has always been that way, it's just her nature. Yet she wasn't so nonchalant about being named Missouri State Outstanding Student Council Member of the Year by the Missouri Association of Student Councils recently. It's the first time in history a student from Sikeston has been given the honor.
SIKESTON - Employees of the City of Sikeston Park Department and members of the Veteran's Park Committee are preparing the F-4 Phantom Jet to be put on display at the park, located off Malone Avenue near the airport. Putting the mock after-burning engines in the jet were Frank Ferrell, Tom Burns and Ron Hill.
