CANALOU - David Jewel Chaney, 36, died at 4:01 a.m. March 3, 2007, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
Born Aug. 10, 1970, in Dexter, son of John L. and Gloria A. Drake Chaney of Canalou, he earned an associate degree in computer networking technology. He lived most of his life here, having returned three years ago after working for 12 years in Abilene, Texas, as a flight paramedic. A member of the Canalou Baptist Church, he was also a member of Sikeston Masonic Lodge 310 AF&AM, Morley Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star 342 and the Carnation Chapter Order of the Eastern Star 141 in Bernie.
On Aug. 15, 1992, in Canalou, he married Rebecca L. "Becki" Brown who survives of the home.
Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are: two stepsons and a stepdaughter-in-law, Randy Sparks and Matthew and Shannon Sparks of Poplar Bluff; two brothers and a sister-in-law, John Kevin Chaney of Canalou and Jody and Karen Chaney of Sikeston; three grandchildren, Ashtin Vaughn, Tanis Sparks and Rylee Sparks; four nephews, Tyson Chaney, Tanner Chaney, Tucker Chaney and Jake Chaney, three nieces, Krysten Chaney, Johnna Chaney and Jennie Mae Chaney; his mother-in-law, Marmadean Brown of Corpus Christi, Texas; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jewel and Louise Chaney, and his maternal grandparents, G.D. and Iris Drake.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel in Sikeston where an Eastern Star Service is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Fred Ritter, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Marble Hill, officiating assisted by the Rev. Dewayne Coleman of the Canalou Baptist Church and the Rev. Jason Grubbs of the Miner Baptist Church.
Burial will follow in the Matthews Cemetery in Matthews.
