SIKESTON - Edwin Elbert Carey, 78, died at 3:15 p.m. Feb. 8, 2007, at his home in Sikeston.

Born Aug. 21, 1928, in Little Egypt, Ark., he was the son of the late Lige and Edna Harris Carey. A retired, self-employed sanitation worker, he had lived in Sikeston for over 50 years.

On Sept. 25, 1948, in Potosi, he married Ava F. Bohannon, who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Gerome and Wanda Carey of Benton and Edwin F. and Margaret Carey of Springfield; one daughter, Kimberly Carey of the home; one brother, Reo Carey of Fredericktown; one sister, Roma Garrison of Sikeston; and one granddaughter, Katy Carey of Benton.

He was preceded in death by two sons, one daughter, two brothers and two sisters.

Visitation is from 9 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel in Sikeston. The Rev. Dewayne Coleman, pastor of Canalou Baptist Church, will officiate.

A graveside committal service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Shirley Cemetery near Potosi.
