SHS golfers drop close match; Lady 'Dogs rout Kennett, 10-0

Tuesday, April 3, 2007

SIKESTON -- The Bulldog golf team lost a close match Monday night against Cape Central, 173-175.

"I was a little let down by our team effort today," said Sikeston coach Rick Oetting. "I have watched them improve over the past week and expected them to win our opening home match. What I saw were a few course management mistakes that could have easily turned this into a victory."

The medalist position was a tie between Bill Green of Sikeston and Jack Connell of Cape Central, both with a 39. Other scorers for the varsity were Dakota Trevino 41, De Bizzell 47 and Clayton Mayfield 48.

The junior varsity won 150 to 160. Medalist for the J.V. was Sikeston's Austin Littleton with a 47. The Bulldogs host Notre Dame Wednesday at the Sikeston Country Club.

MURPHYSBORO, Ill. -- The Sikeston Bulldog track and field team had a strong day at the 16-team Murphysboro Invitational on Saturday before it was rained out.

Sikeston coach Jerry Dement said about a third of the meet was completed before a rainstorm forced officials to cancel the rest of the meet.

"We had a pretty good day against some really good competition," said Dement. "We're starting to come around a little bit. I think Tommie Strong has had a really good year so far. He's kind of coming into his own. Our relays continue to be competitive. I've been really pleased with our horizontal jumps so far. We've got three or four really good jumpers."

Sikeston's Mark Williamson finished second in the long jump (21-4) while teammate Dominic Fondon took third at 21-2.

In the triple jump, Demetrius Jackson took second with a leap of 43-4 while Fondon took third at 43-2.
