SIKESTON -- Carey Hughes, 78, formerly of Haywood City, died July 31, 2006, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
Born Feb. 10, 1928, in Oran, son of the late Earnest and Cora Bell Johnson Hughes, he moved to East St. Louis, Ill., where he retired from Schually Steel. He was a member of the New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Haywood City, where he also served on the usher board.
Survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Herice Lorraine and Donnie McClinton of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Carey Hughes Jr. and Russell Hughes of Chicago; one sister, Geraldine Norsworthy of Atlanta; three brothers, Octava Hughes of Pontiac, Mich., Emmett Hughes of Detroit and Andrew Hughes of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; three stepsisters, Marcell Tee of Wynne, Ark., Francis McFerren of St. Louis and Talisa Ware of Chicago; two stepbrothers, Curtis Scott of Bellville, Ill., and Carnell Scott of Gary, Ind.; and seven grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. Saturday until time for services at noon at New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Alex Sims, pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Haywood City Cemetery.
