DEXTER -- Richard T. "Rick" Watkins, 48, died March 31, 2007, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Born Dec. 6, 1958, in Poplar Bluff, son of Marsh Watkins of Dexter and the late Bobbie Lucius Watkins, he had lived his entire life in Dexter and was a funeral director and co-owner the Watkins and Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Puxico, Parma and Morehouse. He was a member of the National Funeral Directors Association, the Missouri Funeral Directors Association, The Southeast Missouri Funeral Directors Association and was past-president of the Southeast Missouri Funeral Directors Association. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Dexter and the Cape Girardeau Grey Hound Protection Association.

On Aug. 6, 2003, in New Orleans, he married Betty Shuerenberg who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two sons, Cory Watkins of St. Louis and Trevor Watkins of Hillsboro; one stepson, Matt Shuerenberg of Dexter; one stepdaughter, Stephanie Flippin of Poplar Bluff; two brothers, Robert Watkins of Bloomfield and Michael Watkins of Dexter; and his stepmother, Dixie Watkins of Dexter.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Watkins and John Kevin Watkins.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Vaughn Wright of Dexter will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
