SIKESTON - The city council last night agreed to allow a boy to appear in the National School Boy Safety Patrol parade and to present a certificate to Harold Vogel, Civil Defense director.


SIKESTON - Smoke fumes in a burning house awakened its only occupant in time for her to save her life late Tuesday night in the Smith Addition. Mrs. Willie Burton, 518 Smith St., ran from her bedroom through flames in the living room to escape.

SIKESTON - Former Sikeston resident-turned London stage actor and choreographer visited his hometown recently and made a donation to the Sikeston Little Theatre for work on the Chaney-Harris Cultural Center. Tom Jobe presented the donation on Friday to the SLT board member Hope Terrell and SLT president Lynn Colley.

SIKESTON - Residents on Wickerwood Drive awoke Christmas Day to a bigger surprise than brightly decorated gifts - two red foxes on their front lawn. Dr. Stephen Williams, veterinarian, said typically foxes, skunks and raccoon are the biggest carriers of rabies. "But that is the fox's only real threat. They are really scared of people and will run if they smell or see a person."


SIKESTON - A burglary at Mazzio's Pizza, 1511 E. Malone, resulted in about $3,200 in damages to vending machines, the theft of $30 in coins from a cash register and the theft of an antique Dallas Cowboy helmet valued at $200. Entry to the business was gained through the drive-in window sometime between 11 p.m. Dec. 30 and 8 a.m. Dec. 31 according to DPS officials. Some of the vending machines were found in New Madrid County.
