SIKESTON - The Sikeston Airport will soon be a thing of the past if the Board of Aeronautics doesn't make arrangements with the federal government to take over the operation.

SIKESTON - A price of $950,000 was agreed upon as a purchase price for Missouri Utilities Co. facilities in Sikeston by the city of Sikeston at a meeting of company officials and the Sikeston Board of Public Works members.

Feb. 6, 1987

SIKESTON - Don Nelson of H&H Construction in Sikeston chipped away at part of the Quality Auto Parts Store, 102 N. Kingshighway, readying it for The Rex, a restaurant and lounge. The back sections of the building that houses the parts store and Collins Music Co., will be used for the establishment. The Rex will feature nostalgic decor, music from the 1930s to 1980s, a dance floor and upscale dining.

NEW MADRID - A promotional campaign earned second place at the 1997 Missouri Governor's Conference on Tourism and Marian Bock, the city's director of economic development, was named the winner of the Emory Melton Service Award, a statewide honor given a Missourian in recognition of career contributions in support of Missouri's travel industry. Nominated for the award by Dot Halstead, executive director of the New Madrid Historical Museum, Bock was presented with a plaque during a dinner for the 300 delegates. Former Missouri Director of Tourism Marjorie Beenders presented the honor.

ORAN - The Sikeston girls basketball team earned their fourth win of the season Wednesday, defeating the Oran Lady Eagles, 52-29.
