SIKESTON - KMC Construction/ServiceMaster Clean, a disaster restoration firm with offices in Cape Girardeau and Sikeston, was honored by the Missouri Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve at its annual awards banquet at the Missouri Governor's Mansion in Jefferson City on Friday, November 17. Tony L. Smee, Vice President & General Manager, accepted the award on behalf of the firm.

The "Above and Beyond Award" was presented to just five employers in Missouri, who were chosen for outstanding service to employees who are members of the National Guard and Reserve. The unique mission of ESGR is to "gain and maintain active employer support from all public and private employers for the men and women of the Guard and Reserve as defined by demonstrated employer commitment to employee military service." National Guard and Reserve Members may recognize their employers for their support of the military by nominating them for awards.

KMC Construction/ ServiceMaster Clean was nominated for the award by an employee, Major Ed Gargas of Dexter, who also serves the Missouri National Guard as Executive Officer of the 1140th Eng. Btn., headquartered in Cape Girardeau, upon his return from deployment in Iraq last year. Major Gargas also presented Smee with a Freedom Salute Center of Influence Medal for personal support during his deployment.

"I have been truly amazed at the level of appreciation and recognition we have been shown by the ESGR," says Smee. "We provided support to Ed, maintained contact with his family and included them in our activities throughout the year--all things I grew up believing we had a responsibility to do. The presentation speech Friday really made me aware of how many of our returning veterans do not receive such support. I feel it's the least we can do for those who are making such a tremendous sacrifice."

Retired Brig. Gen. Tracy Beckette, Chairman of the Missouri ESGR Committee, retired Major General Loran Schnaidt and the Assistant Adjutant General-

Army Brig. Gen. Larry Kay presented the awards at the ceremony.
