DEXTER -- Dwight Smith, 84, died Feb. 14, 2007, at his home.
Born March 22, 1922, at Rector, Ark., son of the late John Henry and Pearl May Smith, he was a farmer and the owner of Smitty's Machine and Welding Shop in Dexter. A veteran of the U.S. Marines, serving in World War II, he was a member of the Sadler Chapel United Methodist Church near Dexter.
On June 14, 1941, at Kennett, he married Lena Redfairn who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: four sons, Jerry Dwight Smith of Grassy, Ronald Lee Smith of Doniphan, Larry Charles Smith of Bloomfield and Rickie L. Smith of Batesville, Ark.; two brothers, George Smith of Livingston, Ill., and Marvin Smith of Dexter; four sisters, Eva Middleton Barrow of Granite City, Ill., Lawanda Allie of Michigan City, Ind., Monita Parks of Caseyville, Ill., and Stella Norman of Evansville, Ill.; and 10 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Herbert Smith; and three sisters, Gladys Gowan, Cleetis Bardsley and Myrtle Bucy.
Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday. His grandson, the Rev. Shannon W. Smith, and the Rev. Andy Amble will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Sadler Chapel Cemetery.
