SIKESTON - A 20-year-old Sikeston man is in custody on drug charges as well as facing charges for fleeing from officers not once, but twice.

Olajuwon Lane is being held in the Scott County Jail on charges of leaving the scene of an accident, possession of narcotics, felony escape and resisting arrest which were filed by Scott County Prosecutor Paul Boyd. Lane is being held on a $10,000 cash or surety bond. No court date has been set.

Lane was arrested after Sikeston Department of Public Safety officers attempted to stop a vehicle at 1:30 p.m. Thursday for improper registration. After a short pursuit, the vehicle crashed into a fence at 813 Mary. Lane, who was a passenger, and the driver of the vehicle fled on foot in separate directions. Lane was arrested a short distance from the accident.

During the foot pursuit, officers observed Lane throw an item under a bush. Officers recovered the bag which contained approximately 20 grams of marijuana, along with several pills believed to be "ecstasy."

After Lane was placed in the back of a DPS patrol unit, he was able to open the rear door and fled once again from officers. Lane was again caught a short distance away.

The driver, whose name is being withheld by DPS, is still being sought for numerous charges.
