SIKESTON - The first snowfall for this winter was forecast for this afternoon. A few snowflakes fell this morning. The snow flurries will end tonight when the mercury is expected to plunge to 18 degrees. The record for this date is 17.


SIKESTON - City attorney Manuel Drumm has met with city representatives of the Missouri Utilities Company for exploratory discussions of the city's intention to enjoin the company for further expansion.

SIKESTON - The Burlington-Northern "Santa Claus Express," with its 25,000 lights will stop in Sikeston from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday. The Christmas train will stop along North West Street.


SIKESTON - "Baseball never ends," Greg Matthews said Saturday night. "The stories live forever. The game's been the same since Abner Doubleday invented it and it will never change. That's what's great about it." It is that belief that inspired the Southeast Missouri Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame since its inception in 1977. Matthews, who pitched in the 1987 National League Championship series and World Series for the Cardinals, was keynote speaker at the Hall's 1996 induction banquet at Sikeston High School.
