SIKESTON - Philip Sadler, Tuesday, purchased Ray's Grocery and Market from A.E. Ray and announced that he will operate the store under the name of Sadler's Grocery and Market.
SIKESTON - M.P. McDaniel, basketball coach, spoke this morning to the Optimist Club at the Rustic Rock. He said that his young team had an excellent attitude and would develop as the season progresses. Prospects for next year are bright, he reported.
SIKESTON - According to Sikeston Light and Water personnel, a breaker blew early this morning causing a power outage in the southeast section of town. At this point it has not yet been determined what caused the breaker to blow, an official said. When the breaker blew around 3:30 a.m., one circuit was cut off which caused a large area of the southeast section of Sikeston to be without power. Power was restored in stages, with the last area without power to be restored about 7 o'clock this morning.
SIKESTON - Mike Marshall has been appointed to the Southeast Missouri Regional Port Commission. Marshall was appointed by the Scott County Commission to complete the last year of a three-year unexpired term left vacant by William Bess.
SIKESTON - The announcement that the Rev. Charles Buck was resigning from his seat on the Sikeston Public Schools Board of Education, after serving 18 months, was obviously not welcomed news. "In my brief but very important time with you I've really enjoyed being on the school board," Buck said graciously. "Effective the first of January, I will be moving to Springfield, Mo."
SIKESTON - Ralph Armour of Sikeston was the winner of Sears' After Thanksgiving Christmas Sale Drawing. Armour won a $100 shopping spree.
