SIKESTON - The Sikeston cagers defeated the Cape Girardeau preps in basketball action 30 to 24.

SIKESTON - Richard S. Pinkerton will begin Wednesday as the new manager of the Chamber of Commerce. Pinkerton arrived Monday from St. Joseph, where he worked for two years as assistant manager for the Chamber of Commerce.

SIKESTON - Gen. Maxwell D. Taylor, special advisor to President Lyndon Johnson on Southeast Asian Affairs, confirmed a committee request to appear at the annual Sikeston Man of the Year banquet April 21. Taylor returned from a tour in Vietnam today.

SIKESTON - Paul Wise of Sikeston fired an iron shot to the green in Thursday's 70-degree January heat wave. The golfers sneaked from the office to the Country Club for a quick couple of holes. Thursday's temperature did manage to chase away a few wintry blahs. Records were shattered throughout the Southeast Missouri region with 74 degrees recorded in the early afternoon.

NEW MADRID - New Madrid County Central, which moved back into the No. 1 spot in a Southeast Missouri prep basketball poll this week, ran its record to a 14-4 with a 57-44 victory over 3A District 1 rival Caruthersville Thursday.

SIKESTON - In recognition of Catholic Schools Week, and as a memorial to Sister Lucille Kalinowski, students at St. Francis Xavier School planted an oak tree in Malone Park on Wednesday.

JACKSON - After struggling through seven consecutive losses, the Sikeston eighth grade team has won three games in a row, and stands on the verge of winning the Jackson Eighth Grade Tournament, after defeating Cape Girardeau, 38-28, Wednesday. Dusty Kutos led the Sikeston team in scoring with 15 points.
