PORTAGEVILLE -- Elsie M. Cantrell, 97, died Dec. 11, 2007, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born June 19, 1910, in Pine Valley, Miss., she was the daughter of the late Bill and Cora Gorton Dickey. She had worked as a seamstress, a dime store clerk and in a sewing factory in Memphis, Tenn. and U.M. Delta Center. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher of the 5-year-old class over 30 years. She was active in the Keenagers nearly 25 years, the Dorcas Sunday School Class and the Missionary Prayer Group.
She married Lotis Ray Cantrell who preceded her in death in 1959.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Joel Durrell Cantell; nine brothers and sisters; and one grandson.
Survivors include: one son, Lotis Ray Cantrell of Portageville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Lucinda "Cindee" and Jimmy Johnson and Barbara Ann and Marvin Gream of Portageville and Martha Mae and Bobby McCrady of South Haven, Miss.; and 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled at 6 p.m. Thursday at the DeLisle Funeral Home in Portageville. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church. The Rev. Jim Johnson and Dr. Buck Morton will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Portageville Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
