MORLEY -- Scott County Central girls defeated Chaffee 61-31 in a Scott-
Mississippi Conference game at the Ronnie Cookson Gymnasium on Thursday.
The Bravettes, the No. 7-ranked team in Class 1, got off to a sluggish start against the Lady Red Devils then turned up the intensity in the second half.
"We came out slow and played down to our competition in the first half," said Scott Central coach Semona Penrod.
Scott Central (17-5) held an 8-5 lead after one quarter, then led 22-12 at the half.
The Bravettes got it going with a 25-point third quarter to expand the lead to 47-23.
"We attacked with the press and picked up our tempo and intensity in the second half," Penrod said. "We're not very effective if we don't get up and down the court."
Four Bravettes scored in double digits topped by Samantha Jones' 18 points, including their only two 3-pointers. Markita Mosley had 13 points and Brittney Peet and Jamisha Williams added 10 apiece.
Scott Central visits South Pemiscot on Friday for a tripleheader with boys varsity and junior varsity games also on tap.
