Born March 19, 1920, in Matthews, son of the late Charlie Edward and Nellie Gray Rather Shelby, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II, was a self-
employed carpenter and attended Matthews Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include: one sister, Emma Lou Sloan of Savoy, Ill.; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Elizabeth Shelby of Honolulu and Nedra Shelby of Matthews; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Shelby and Marvin Shelby; and one sister, Ruth Alene Shelby.
Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. Joe McCullough, pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Matthews Cemetery.
