NEW MADRID -- The Rev. James Bell Jr., 73, died Dec. 23, 2006, at the John A. Pershing Veteran Hospital in Poplar Bluff.
Born Jan. 10, 1933, in New Sarpy, La., son of the late Jimmy and Grace Jackson Bell, he had lived for many years in Missouri. A U.S. Army veteran, he had served as pastor of First Baptist Church in Olmstead, Ill., for many years and was the current pastor of First Baptist Church in Howardville.
Survivors include: his wife of many years, Ester Coffee Bell, of the home; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Raymond and Diane Bell of New Madrid, Danny Bell of Sikeston and Walter Thomas of New Orleans; and 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Howard Thomas.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Howardville. The Rev. Richard Houston, pastor of First Baptist Church of Catron, will officiate.
Burial with full military rites will be at noon Tuesday in the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery at Bloomfield.
