DEXTER -- The Dexter School Board Tuesday night voted to hire Rob Nichols to lead the Bearcats' basketball program next season, according to Dr. Ken Jackson, superintendent of schools.
Dr. Jackson said Nichols had been notified of the board's decision, but The Daily Statesman was unable to reach Nichols for comment before the paper's deadline.
Nichols served as the Bearcats assistant basketball coach last season under Chris Trimmer, who informed the board recently that he would not be returning as a teacher or a coach next year.
Nichols has been with the Dexter school system for five years after being employed at Richland.
Nichols is currently teaching in the At Risk program at T. S. Hill Middle School in Dexter.
Trimmer leaves Dexter after one season and a 12-15 record, the second straight losing season for the school's basketball program after a sting of five consecutive years with 20 or more wins.
Trimmer left for a similar position at Windsor High School in Imperial, Mo., a job that will see him living closer to his Ste. Genevieve residence.
