SIKESTON - The Head Start program was called a challenge and a joy, opening a new world to children, the most constructive and practical program the federal government has recently embarked upon, said Mrs. Richard Powell, administrative secretary for the Sikeston program.

SIKESTON - "Remember, if you're going to drive, don't drink," stated Mark Walker of the Designated Driver Public Awareness Program. Plans for the program were announced this morning at a press conference at the city administration building. The program, sponsored by Southwestern Bell Telephone and the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce, is in its second year locally.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Rotary Club is asking professional photographers and shutterbugs to contribute photos which can be used for the club's greeting cards in fall of 1987. The club may choose up to 10 color photos taken of homes participating in this year's City of Lights program. The photos will serve as covers for 1987 Christmas cards.

SIKESTON - Mother Nature delivered an early Christmas present to Sikeston today, one many residents have been wishing long and hard for. Now with snow, residents agree it feels much more like Christmas. Continued flurries are in the forecast for the Bootheel with temperatures expected to dip into the teens later in the week.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston junior varsity wrestling team took advantage as host team of the Sikeston Junior Varsity Tournament on Saturday, winning by 20 points. "Our junior varsity coach, Jerry Golden, did a really good job," said Sikeston varsity wrestling coach, Marc Stevener.
