SIKESTON -- Charles R. "Dick" Sherrard, 69, died May 3, 2007, at Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Born Feb. 3, 1938, in Morehouse, to the late Paul J. and Alma D. Morris Sherrard Sr., he was a member of Miner Baptist Church, the Missouri National Guard 1120th and a 20-year veteran of the Sikeston Department of Public Safety. He and his entire family survived the attack on Pearl Harbor, where his father was stationed in the U.S. Navy.

On Aug. 26, 1960, in Sikeston, he married Ella Dee Martin, who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Deborah K. Sherrard of Sikeston; and one brother, Paul J. Sherrard Jr. of Sikeston.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Ron Shrum, senior adult minister of Miner Baptist Church, will officiate.
