SIKESTON - It was a beautiful day, ideal for spectators. The crowd was large but orderly. The bands from the two schools were colorful. It was a good football game, but Sikeston lost to Charleston 7-6.

SIKESTON - Attempts by the city to be recertified under the Workable Plan has failed. The situation was brought out in the council meeting Monday night.


SIKESTON - The City Council authorized the Board of Public Works to go ahead with the preparation to sell $1.2 million in revenue and general obligation bonds.

SIKESTON -The Sikeston Power Station has been chosen to receive the first Missouri certification number under a new state law. Legislation approved Nov. 12 requires that all boilers and pressure vessels meet national boiler and pressure vessel codes, according to Dick Inman, director of utilities for the Board of Municipal Utilities in Sikeston.


SIKESTON - A groundbreaking ceremony was conducted Thursday at the location for the new Mills Chiropractic Center, presently located at 506 Virginia. The new building will be located on Linn Street near the Chamber of Commerce building and should be completed by March.

SIKESTON - Flower shops and nurseries who deliver arrangements to the graves at Memorial Park and Forest Hill cemeteries this season will be asked to pay in advance for a portion of the cost of removing them. A letter notifying local stores of the charges was sent on Nov. 20 by cemetery owners, Henry and Lila Bussey. The letter says that the cemeteries "will no longer allow seasonal decorations placed on any burial space unless a surcharge is paid at time of placement." The charges are $1 for poinsettias, $2 for wreaths and $7.50 for blankets.
