ST. PETERS - Ruth Swank Hales, 98, formerly of Mississippi County and Jacksonville, Fla., died Dec. 12, 2006, at the St. Peters Manor Care Center in St. Peters.
Born Oct. 24, 1908, in Wyatt, to the late John M. and Burnette Raffety Swank, she was a retired school teacher, teaching 18 years in the Mississippi County and Charleston school systems, before moving to Jacksonville where she taught for 31 years and was a member of the Main Street Baptist Church. In 1987, she returned to Missouri.
On July 30, 1948, she married John B. Hales who preceded her in death on Sept. 2, 1968.
Two brothers, Loren Swank and Bernard Swank; and one sister, Wilma Swank Henson, preceded her in death.
Survivors include: one sister, Julia Carter Davis of St. Peters; and five nephews and two nieces.
Private burial will be held Friday at the Evergreen Cemetery at Jacksonville. A memorial service will be held at a later date in St. Louis.
