SIKESTON - Thirteen scantily clad persons occupying the four apartments on the second floor of the Fair Grove Grocery Store building were rousted from their homes into 18-degree weather Monday morning by a fire that gutted the second story.

BLOOMFIELD - The Bloomfield Wildcats upended the Matthews Pirates to take the championship game of the Bloomfield basketball tournament.

MINER - Construction on Broadmere Retirement Center, located on South Interstate Drive at Miner, is proceeding ahead of schedule with an anticipated opening date now of August 1987. The 64 units of housing for retired persons will have numerous services for occupants, including a beauty-

barber shop, library, meeting-recreation-exercise rooms, a lounge with a big screen TV, a lake, elevators, a garden area and 24-hour security service.


SIKESTON - It didn't look like a Scott Central-Charleston game in the first half - but it wound up a one-point cliffhanger that seeds Scott Central into the University's Christmas Tournament championship game tonight against Notre Dame.

BLOOMFIELD - The Bloomfield Tournament came to a dramatic close on Saturday night. First place went to East Carter County over Bernie 70-64. Portageville finished third, defeating Malden 52-40. Doniphan took fifth place with a win over Twin Rivers 71-55 and the Bloomfield Wildcats defeated Van Buren 77-64 in the consolation bracket championship game. Team sportsmanship award went to Portageville.


SIKESTON - Tax season is about to begin as federal postal employee Karen Cook begins to distribute the Missouri forms today. Employers also get their forms today, but individual taxpayers will have to wait until Jan. 2, 1997.
