SIKESTON - Building construction in 1946 showed an amazing increase over construction in 1945. The increase nearly doubled according to records on file at the city clerk's office. 1946 had 124 permits filed while in 1945, 54 were reported.

SIKESTON - A 6 pound, 6 ounce daughter, born to Mr. and Mrs. Harold Banks at 12:48 a.m., was the first birth recorded for the new year at Missouri Delta Community Hospital.


SIKESTON - A fire resulting from an explosion Sunday at the Reiss Dairy caused damage exceeding $1,000 and minor injuries to an employee.

SIKESTON - The new year baby arrived at 7:58 p.m. Wednesday at Missouri Delta Medical Center. RNC Jacque Thurmond reports that Stephanie Dawn Mace came into the world weighing 7 pounds 13 ounces and was 21 inches long.


BENTON - Scott County officials were sworn in by Rita Milam, county clerk on Tuesday at the courthouse. They include: Dewaine Shaffer, second district commissioner; Bill Ferrell, sheriff; Sonny Alcorn, public administrator; Walter Bizzell, first district commissioner; Scott Amick, coroner; and Norman Lambert, surveyor.


NEW MADRID - Officials for New Madrid county were sworn in Tuesday by County Clerk Jim W. Farrenburg. They include: Tim Clayton, county coroner; Nancy C. Pardon, public administrator; Robert B. Hedgepeth, first district commissioner; C.W. Ice, surveyor; Terry Stevens, sheriff; and C. Sam Pikey, second district commissioner.
