MOREHOUSE - Mr. and Mrs. Carl Launius have moved to St. Louis where he has found employment.

SIKESTON - Eleven new members of the Civil Air Patrol received the Curry Achievement Award for successful completion of cadet basic training Monday night at the Airport School. Four of the veteran candidates were promoted to the rank of technical sergeant.

SIKESTON - The city council decided to allow Mayor Kendall Sikes to enter in an agreement with the Sikeston Development Corporation to lease five acres near the airport.

BENTON - Voters in Scott County will be asked to choose county ambulance district directors, as well as consider several other special issues in Tuesday's election. All of the ballots are single-issue propositions or single-office races including the Sikeston City Council primary with five candidates for two seats.


NEW MADRID - Refinancing construction of a third building on the New Madrid County Central High School East Campus will be decided by voters in the R-1 School District Tuesday. The board is proposing in the bond election to borrow $4.2 million to refinance the revenue bonds sold earlier to finance construction and furnish the building.

SIKESTON - Since reopening 10 years ago, enrollment has increased from 38 to 148 students at St. Francis Xavier Catholic School in Sikeston. Students participated in events in celebration of Catholic Schools Week, Jan. 26-30.


SIKESTON - Troy Wilson, president and CEO of the First National Bank of Sikeston, presented a donation of $250 to Kaye Dement of the American Heart Association to sponsor a wine tasting. The wine tasting is Feb. 14 and is to raise funds for the American Heart Association.
