DEXTER - The city council Monday night set Nov. 15 as the date to vote on a $75,000 swimming pool bond issue.


SIKESTON - The annual high school football game will begin Friday at 7:30 p.m. when the Bulldogs meet Cape Girardeau in Sikeston Stadium.

SIKESTON - Area job hopefuls lined up early Thursday morning to apply for positions with the new Kmart department store which will open its doors at the former TG&Y location by Nov. 28. Prospective employees were waiting in line at the Kingsway Plaza Mall by 8 a.m.


DEXTER - Two thefts are under investigation by the Dexter Police Department. The theft of a weight bench taken from a front porch was reported by Clayton Ginn and 10 pairs of blue jeans and a pair of dress pants, valued at $400, were taken from a carport at the Gary Caldwell residence Thursday night.

SIKESTON - Pratt Development Company workers are about half way done removing the second story of the old Dunn Hotel. Work may slow however with rain in the forecast.


SIKESTON - Wal-Mart reported a burglary that occurred between 9 p.m. Sunday and 7 a.m. Monday. The manager told Public Safety officers one of the clerks discovered six radar detectors had been taken from the electronics department. Each unit cost $138.88 with a total loss of $833.28 reported.


SIKESTON - The float contest winner in the Student/Scout category for the Cotton Carnival Parade received their winnings recently. The winners were Pack 40, first place, $250; Pack 43, second place, $150; and Elks, third place, $100.
